How To Soothe Irritated Ears

Ever since I was a baby, I’ve had my ears pierced. My first piercings were done before I could even talk. But, one of the problems I’ve encountered my whole life is sensitivity to certain types of metal. If I wear anything other than real gold, my ears become red, inflamed, itchy and irritated. So, what’s a girl to do?

The easiest thing to do is buy earrings that don’t irritate your ears. But, if you aren’t able to do that there are a few other things you can do.

Do some tests. Experiment with various types of metals. Perhaps only one type of metal irritates your ears and others don’t. Then you know what to look for. One common irritant is nickel. If you can’t help but wear earrings containing an irritating metal (like I sometimes do), limit the amount of time you wear your earrings. Usually six to eight hours is my threshold.

Here’s one trick: before you put on your earrings, cover the post or loop in Vaseline. Vaseline provides a coating on the earring, moisturizes your skin and cuts down on the metal having such an intense effect on your ears. Though I haven’t tried it, I believe products like coconut oil or Neosporin would offer the same benefits.

If you’re already experiencing irritation, make sure you have take care of your ears. I usually clean my ear lobes with some rubbing alcohol or Bactine on a cotton ball. Then, just one of the products I mention to moisturize and heal the irritation.

Do you have sensitivity to certain metals? How do you prevent or soothe irritation?

Colored and patterned tights are back again and I couldn't be more excited. My mom bought me a pair of purple ones last year that I love to wear. I also purchased a pair of black polka dot ones that are perfect with my black shorts. I feel sassy when I wear them. It's time to stock up on some more pairs for this season.

2. H&M 80 Denier Tights - $5.95

Fashion: Crossbody Bags

I don't discriminate when it comes to a great purse but I have to say that I tend to gravitate towards crossbody bags more than any other type of bag. They are comfortable, stylish and come in a variety of sizes, colors and designs. I don't like to fuss with a purse (especially when I'm out shopping) and think these are the perfect alternative. Here are some of my favorites that I've been eying this season:

Fashion: To Romper or not to Romper

Romper - BCBG, Belt - Forever 21, Watch - Fossil, Shoes - Steve Madden

I used to think I could never rock the romper trend. I have a short torso and some curves that just didn't work with the romper style. Until I found this one. It's not too short in the back like most of them are on me and it doesn't make my short torso look even shorter. Please excuse the wrinkles - I was sitting for a long time before I convinced Jay to take some pictures of me. We may or may not have been in the parking lot of the restaurant for our photo shoot.

It was a fun easy outfit to throw together for our date night. I plan on bringing this outfit with me on vacation and I can't wait to wear it again.

What do you think of this look? Are there any trends you never thought you could wear?

Wedding: My Bargain Wedding Shoe Find

[via]

Calling all brides out there: let me tell you a little secret ... it's possible to wear high end accessories on your wedding day for a fraction of the price. How you ask?

Enter discount stores such as Nordstrom Rack, TJMaxx, Marshalls, etc. I frequently visit these places to see if there are any good deals going on and just happened to find some amazing shoes for my wedding.

Here's the thing though. You have to be patient and you have to hunt. Sometimes I go into these stores and sadly walk out empty handed. However, if you're willing to wait you can find incredible deals.

The shoes I found are Vera Wang and retail for well over $300. I paid $99. Yes - for the same shoes you can still find online and at major department stores for three times more. This is insane. They are not last season and there is nothing wrong with them.

I wasn't even searching for wedding shoes when I found them but I was freaking out when I did. I knew they had to be mine immediately -- it was too good of a deal to pass up on. I have about a year still to look but I didn't think I would find shoes that looked as good for the price between now and then so I scooped them up.

It's worth the hunt - trust me! When you're spending hundreds (read: thousands) of dollars on all other aspects of your wedding - saving a few bucks here and there adds up quick!

I can't share photos of the actual shoes on the blog because my loving fiancé (Hi Jay!) reads this and I don't want him to see. I've got to leave some elements of surprise out there for him!

Have you found an incredible deal at a discount store? What's your favorite bargain item to hunt for?

Accessories On the Cheap

I never put much effort into accessorizing, but I’ve realized in the past few years how much the right accessories can take an outfit from looking good to looking great.

Problem: sometimes accessories can turn into a big expense. Personally, if I’m going to invest my money I’d rather it be on a good pair of shoes. So in order to compromise, I’ve made it a point to only buy jewelry and other accessories when I can find them for dirt cheap.

That’s where Forever 21 comes in. Quick story. Once I was in Forever 21 looking at a top. That’s when a much younger girl came up and looked at the same exact top. She then turned to her friend and said “isn’t this a cute dress?!?!” That’s when I realized – I am getting old. Yes, sometimes it feels ridiculous to shop in a store where 15-year-olds girls run amok, but have you checked out the accessories section? Great deals on very chic jewelry.

Here are a few things I got on a recent trip:

How much do you think these six pairs of earrings cost? If you said $12, you would be absolutely correct.

What are your go-to places for finding cheap and trendy accessories?
