Review: Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner

I try to take care of my hair by maintaining a good diet, drinking a lot of water and using the right products. One product I’ve been using as part of my hair care routine for the past few years is Healthy Sexy Hair’s Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner. It’s a spray that you use on your hair post-shampoo and conditioning. It’s made with soy and proteins to help strengthen, moisturize, smooth and give shine and body to the hair.

I usually use it after I’ve towel dried my hair. I lift sections of my hair and spray about five to eight times near the roots of my hair then a few sprays through the length of my hair, then I work it through with my fingers. Afterward, I use a wide-tooth comb and work from the ends of my hair to work out the tangles. Once I started using the product, I was hooked. It has a really clean and fresh scent and is extremely lightweight. My hair is very straight and has no natural volume, but I notice that it has a little more body when I use the spray. It also acts as an excellent detangler. Another great thing about the product is that it’s especially helpful for colored or damaged hair since it’s so moisturizing.

If you’re looking for a great daily hair treatment, definitely check out Healthy Sexy Hair’s leave-in conditioner. Have you tried this product? Let us know in the comments!

Hair: What I'm Using

I like to switch my shampoos and conditioners up every few months to have a variety and to keep my hair guessing. These are the products and tools I'm currently using:

1. FHI Tourmaline Ceramic Professional Hair Styling Iron: I've had this straighter forever and it still works great. Such a great investment.

2. Hot Tools 1 1/4" Curling Iron: I've gone through a few of this curling irons but they really work great. The price can't be beat either!

3. Wigo Anti-Static Ion Hair Dryer: I've had the hair dryer forever and it's about time for a new one. Does anyone have any that they love?

4. H2O+ Sea Marine Revitalizing Shampoo: My future mother-in-law got me a huge bottle of this for Christmas last year and I love it so much. It smells great and gets my hair super clean without drying it out.

5. One 'N Only Argan Oil Treatment: I LOVE this oil treatment -- it smooths down my hair and smells amazing. My mom introduced me to this stuff and I can't get enough of it. Not only is it great for my hair but it makes my hair dry faster and keeps it silky smooth. I just add a quarter sized amount to my hair after getting out of the shower and either let it air dry or blow dry it.

6. Biolage by Matrix Conditioning Balm: It's time for a haircut and my ends are in need of some extra TLC right now so I've brought this back into the rotation. It's a great deep conditioning balm that really hydrates and nourishes my hair.

What hair tools and products do you use that you love? We always love taking recommendations!

DIY: Hair Clarifying Treatments

Not only was I cursed with stick-straight limp hair, it tends to get oily pretty quickly and weighed down if I use any mousse or hairspray. In addition, whenever I use styling products they tend to build up in my hair and over time cause my hair to look like it has even less volume. If this sounds anything like your hair, you might want to consider trying a clarifying treatment.

There are some shampoos on the market specifically formulated with the intention to remove any kind of build-up, dirt or oil from the hair. You can get them at drug stores or specialty retailers, like Ulta or Sephora.

If you’d rather try some at-home remedies instead of spending the money on a shampoo, check out the following DIY options:

One of the simplest ways to get rid of hair build-up is to add baking soda to your regular shampoo. Next time you wash your hair, combine two parts shampoo to one part baking soda. Try to use at least one tablespoon of baking soda—you really want the baking soda to cover your entire scalp and really get to work removing dirt. Shampoo your hair and let everything sit for about one minute, then rinse with lukewarm or cool water. Once you’ve washed your hair, you can condition as you normally would.

Another easy way to remove build-up is with lemon juice. Combine about ½ cup of fresh lemon juice with a few cups of warm water. Pour the mixture on your scalp, massage it and let everything sit for five to 10 minutes. Rinse your hair with lukewarm or cool water, then shampoo and condition.

Get some apple cider vinegar from your local grocery store. Wet your hair and massage one or two tablespoons into your scalp. Let it sit for about five minutes and rinse with lukewarm or cool water. Shampoo and condition your hair.

Tips and suggestions:
  1. With any of these DIY home treatments, I would recommend clarifying your hair once per month. Using baking soda, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar on your hair too often could promote color fading if you dye your hair. If you use a lot of hair styling products, you might want to clarify more often to make sure you’re getting rid of all the build-up.
  2. To make things easier with the lemon juice or apple cider methods, you could combine the ingredients for each into a large spray or squirt bottle. This will make it much easier to apply directly to your scalp.
  3. If you feel like these at-home remedies aren’t effectively getting rid of the build-up in your hair, you might want to talk to your stylist to see if she/he can recommend a specific clarifying shampoo or method. Or, your stylist might be able to recommend some new styling products that won’t cause as much build-up.

L’Oreal Sulfate-Free Shampoos and Conditioners (Part Two)

Hi guys! As Adrianne said in her part one of this review, L’Oreal Sulfate-Free shampoos and conditioners are amazing. I purchased the EverCrème Sulfate-Free Moisture System shampoo and conditioner and have been using it for over a month now. My hair is silky, moisturized and looks so much healthier.

When Adrianne first bought her Everstrong Sulfate-Free Fortify System shampoo and conditioner I immediately noticed. We work together and sit VERY close. Every time she walked past my desk I got a whiff of this amazing smell. I told her that her hair smelled so good and that it had a really strong, but great smell (yeah I know that sounds creepy). I asked her what she was using and she told me all about these shampoos and conditioners and recommended that I check them out too.

I have thick hair - and I mean THICK and it's easy for it to dry out and look dull. The EverCrème shampoo and conditioner works amazing with my hair type and smooths my crazy hair and leaves it silky and shiny. I can't get over how much healthier it is since I started using this.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has thicker and/or dry hair and is looking for a affordable and easy solution.

Try a bottle - you won't be disappointed!

L’Oreal Sulfate-Free Shampoos and Conditioners (Part One)

So, what is sulfate and why should you care whether it’s in your hair care products? If a shampoo or conditioner contains sulfate, it refers to sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). The biggest reason this chemical is added to hair products is to remove built-up oil and to help act as a cleaning agent. Sounds great if you’ve got oily hair, right? SLS is also included because the properties of this chemical help work up that really satisfying foamy lather when you’re washing your hair.

Well, the problem with sulfate is that it could have some damaging effects on your hair. People with really sensitive scalps or hair might find SLS irritating. In addition, SLS can weaken hair which in turn could lead to breakage, slower hair growth or overall damaged hair.

The person who actually recommended that I try the L’Oreal Sulfate-Free hair care system was my grandma. She specifically recommended the Everstrong Sulfate-Free Fortify System. Look at her being on top of beauty trends! I had heard about sulfate-free products a long time ago, but I never really thought I needed to worry about one ingredient in my shampoo. My hair has always been pretty healthy. I’ve colored it regularly over the past few years (I’m moving away from that now), but I’ve not experienced breakage and my hair doesn’t look damaged.

My grandma told me that her hair felt healthier and looked shinier, and that only a few weeks after using the shampoo and conditioner she noticed some new hair growth around her hair line. I was a little skeptical that a shampoo and conditioner could do such wonderful things, but since the L’Oreal products came so highly recommended from my lovely grandma, I decided to try it out.

I bought the shampoo and conditioner at Target, and they are pretty inexpensive. I am already on my second shampoo and conditioner bottles – they work great! One general complaint about sulfate-free shampoos is that they don’t produce a good lather when washing the hair. I can assure you that’s not an issue with this particular product. The shampoo does a good job of cleaning my hair—even without the sulfate—and the conditioner is extremely moisturizing. And I kid you not – I have also found some new hair growth near my hair line.

Amanda decided to try out the L’Oreal Sulfate-Free shampoos and conditioners too. She purchased the EverCrème Sulfate-Free Moisture System. Stay tuned for her review!
