Review: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner

I’ve never been a huge fan of liquid eye liners. Sometimes the formulas are not the right consistency or the brush/felt tip frays and ruins the application. I just haven’t had much luck finding a liquid liner that I truly love at a reasonable price point. But, I’ve always kept my eyes open because I really like the precise look that only a liquid liner can give.

I decided to splurge and get Stila’s All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner from Ulta. At $20, it’s not the cheapest liquid liner out there. But, I heard really great things about the product and had to try it for myself.

The product comes in six different shades. I opted for the black liner, but the product also comes in blue, brown, charcoal gray, forest green and white.

The best thing about the liner is that it comes in a marker. All you need to do is shake it up and it’s ready to go. This is so much better than products that require you to dip a brush into the product. The pen allows for the same amount of product to be dispensed as you apply it. The marker tip also allows you to create a thin or thick line depending on how you hold the pen. By holding the tip flatter to your lashline, you’ll be able to create a thicker line without having to draw it on multiple times.

The formula is perfect—not too thick or thin. It goes on very smooth and the color is very intense. The liner is waterproof and it really does last all day. Once you apply it, the product absolutely won’t budge. I noticed that I did have to spend extra time at the end of the day removing the eye liner—a small price to pay for a product that stays on the entire day.

If you’re looking for a great liquid liner, definitely check this one out.

What’s your favorite liquid liner?

Beauty Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils

I was so spoiled this Christmas. Some of my favorite gifts were ones I didn't even think of -- thank you again friends and family, I truly am so lucky. My future mother-in-law reads this blog and knows how much I love testing new makeup products and reviewing them for you. She totally spoiled me again this year and got me a ton of makeup, face and body products for me to try. Today I'm reviewing the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils

I was so excited to see that there were five colors in the package and that they were all so different than what I currently own. Perversion (very black), Ransom (bright purple), Woodstock (hot pink), Radium (bright blue), Junkie (green). I've been wanting to try out some bolder looks and these eyeliners are perfect!

I love that they are long wear and waterproof. They really stay put -- even with my watery eyes from my contacts. After putting swatches of the colors on my arm it look some serious scrubbing to get them off (especially Perversion) a good sign for how long lasting these colors are!

They all went on so smooth and glided over my eyelids. Some other brands of pencil eyeliners tend to break up or skip over the eyelid leaving breaks in the color. This was not an issue at all with this product and it went on so smooth without tugging on my eyelids at all.

I am a big fan of these eyeliners and am so excited to continue to try out new looks with them.

Have you tried these eyeliners before? Are there any other waterproof liners you love?

How-To: Winged Eyeliner

Love the look of winged eyeliner but haven’t quite mastered it? I’ll show you two really easy tricks to help you get the hang of creating this look: the tissue method and the tape method. What?? I know it sounds weird, but using either a piece of tape or a tissue helped me master the winged eyeliner effect.

Here are the steps:

1. Before getting to the tape/tissue part, apply your eyeliner in small short strokes, making sure to thicken the line as you approach the outer corner of your eye. Trying to drag one line across your eyelid often results in unevenness and less product in some areas.

2. Stop when you get to the outer corner of your eye. Your first goal should be to apply the eyeliner as if you weren’t going to wing it out.

3. Once you’re happy with the line you’ve created, choose either the tape or tissue. If you go with the tape, I recommend placing it on the back of your hand and peeling it off first. Do this several times so that it’s not so sticky when you place it near your eye. If you have really sensitive skin or have some kind of reaction from sticking the tape on your hand, please don’t use this method! If you choose the tissue, fold it in half.

4. Align the tape or tissue with the bottom rim of your eye (you should try to match the angle), like so:

5. If you’re using a tissue, you’ll either have to hold it in place while you finish your eyeliner or tape it down. Even if you tape it down, you’ll need to apply light pressure near your eye to make sure the tissue doesn’t come up while you are applying your eyeliner.

6. In small short strokes, draw a line from the outer corner of your eye along the tape or tissue. The length is up to you; it all depends on how dramatic you want to make the look.

7. Once you have drawn that line, start at the very end of the line and slowly draw back toward the center of your eye in order to connect the wing and the rest of your eyeliner. Fill in any gaps.

You're done!

A few tips:

I think that this look works best with either liquid or gel eyeliner. These types of eyeliners are a bit difficult to wipe away once they dry, so one idea is to lightly trace out the shape of your eyeliner with the same color eye pencil or eyeshadow before putting on the liquid or gel liner.

Don’t be discouraged if you can’t get it perfect right away. Keep a cotton bud soaked in eye makeup remover handy to clean up any mistakes.

Have you tried this method? Do you use guides to apply any of your makeup?
